For more than a decade, Carlton James has served as a director at Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI). In this role, he has helped GBTI become the leading banker in Guyana. Carlton James chairs the Marketing Committee and helps determine communications strategies for the bank’s products and services. GBTI provides a range of important services that drive development in Guyana, including loans for small business owners and farmers.
Between 2014 and 2020, Carlton James served as a public and government affairs manager and director of government relations with ExxonMobil Guyana. He played an important role in marketing the Liza Project, including creating a video that promoted it to the public. Mr. James has additionally served as a consultant and advisor to the World Wildlife Fund and Conservation International, among other prominent organizations.
Carlton James has also worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to promote environmental education, economic development, and conservation in Guyana. He has created strategies for engaging with indigenous populations and worked with UNDP and Guyana Energy Agency to create audio-visual instructions for a solar cooker program.
