I love a good story. Stories are not only entertaining – they help us understand each other. They forge relationships, make us feel things, and (yes) sell products. Whether it’s an epic yarn that spans decades and continents, or the tale of what you made last night for dinner, I’m into it. As a little girl I would make my parents read me the same stories over and over again. I could talk up a storm but I also loved to write. In grade school, I dreamed of book deals.

Although I haven’t yet written the next great Canadian novel, I’ve had a lot of amazing adventures as a storyteller. I’ve chased down politicians on Parliament Hill as a journalism student at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. I’ve written a master’s thesis based on my interviews with immigrant women business owners in Halifax, Nova Scotia. And I’ve built up a professional portfolio that includes hard news, personal essays, editorials, academic journal articles, annual reports, and even video.

Now I’ve taken my love of stories back to school. As a PhD Candidate at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, I can read and write about marketing and management to my heart’s content. One day, with any luck, I’ll be able to pass along my learning to future students as a professor and researcher. It might seem like I’m a long way from my days of corduroy overalls and Betty and Veronica Double Digests, but I beg to differ. I’m still the same bookworm, the same chatterbox – the same wide-eyed kid waiting to learn something “totally cool.”

So, if you’re excited about the world and the neat things that happen in it, let’s connect. Let’s tell good stories together.
