Carmen Eckard is a Creative living in Hickory, North Carolina. She makes up half of Eckard Photographic, a commerical photography and web design studio (eckardphotographic.com), and is mother to two young boys.
Carmen is a Jill-of-all-trades, dabbling in many creative arts, and blending them in interesting ways. After majoring in theatre education, with a concentration in writing, Carmen taught drama in the public schools for 4 years, while directing and acting at local community theatres. She also hosted a successful trivia night for years at several local restaurants, as well as karaoke.
After ending her teaching career, Carmen worked to build on the web design skills she learned in school at Appalachian State and became aquainted with the latest platforms. She began to work more extensively with Jon in the studio and on shoots, and she began writing for the city's marketing site, hickorywellcrafted.com, where she now has an extensive portfolio.
Carmen's husband Jon is the photographer for Eckard Photographic. Carmen enjoys interfacing with the clients, writing in many capacities, managing the business, and designing sites, as well as following Jon around with a reflector and a lense and pockets full of memory cards and batteries.
Carmen's favorite part of her job is crafting marketing materials out of Jon's photography-from postcards to billboards to websites. She finds that as long as she keeps her designs minimal, his photography sings.
Carmen is delighted to work in creative fields, and counts herself very fortunate. She enjoys using her talents of communication to further Jon's photographic reach, and she considers him a true artist.
She also writes a personal blog at ahurricanecalledcarmen.com, where she talks about her kids, being happy, and politics and on occasion rouses some rabble.
She is energetic and very outgoing, and excited about her work. She's also blunt and opinionated, and when people tell her to think outside the box she laughs, because she knows the truth: there never was a box.
