As a woman who lives her life by the credos of generosity and compassion, Carol Berube understands the importance of community and has even self-funded a small publication in an attempt to reach out to strangers in a gentle and kind way. If you ask anyone who knows her, they will tell you that she is very passionate about animals and a staunch supporter of the public school system at the same time. Although Carol Berube has some unshakable opinions about how compassion and generosity of time can help to build stronger communities, she sees herself as someone active in communities rather than an activist. She has gone on record saying that one of the things that amazes her most about life is the acceptance she finds among people much younger than herself. She feels the new generation of younger people who are interested in community spirit are much more compassionate than older folks realize. Carol Berube has spent her entire life living in Toronto, Canada and particularly Southern Ontario. Her education includes schooling in both Guelph and Halton as well as attending a field course in New Brunswick. She has a lifetime of altruistic deeds to her credit including providing those in need with warm clothing and making soft toys for children who are suffering from AIDS. Her personal interests include a variety of the arts including music and literature. Carol Berube has a self-admitted pile of books that she wants to read including titles from authors like Winston Graham and Donna Tartt. The music that she has currently ready to play on her turntable includes classics from legendary bluesman BB King and 60s rockers Pink Floyd. Carol Berube loves animals and splits her time between a rescued retriever and a number of birds, cats and dogs that she lives with. Although she has many great pastimes she enjoys in her life, one of her most pleasurable experiences is swapping clothes, shoes and other interesting accessories at local community events. She enjoys volunteering at these events so that she can see each article as it comes through the door and meet the people on a one-on-one basis. Carol Berube is passionate about putting on children’s art workshops even when she doesn’t always have the money and must barter for the supplies and locations needed. She is also open about her gratitude to all the friends and family who make her volunteering endeavours possible.
