This is one of my favorite quotes, from one of my favorite authors, Walt Whitman, and they are words to live by. I celebrate my authentic self, and have made it my goal to fill my life with the many things I am passionate about, and to let a career develop from those things. One of the most important lessons I learned from my parents is that the path to happiness is to do what you love. On my path to happiness, I am:
-A mother to two amazing, spirited children.
-A writer (I consider myself a poet at heart, but I can and have written lots of different things... real estate listings, instruction manuals, radio ad copy...).
-A hairdresser/makeup artist. I am fascinated by the idea of personal transformation, and I love to help people create a style that reflects who they are.
-A dance teacher. W.H. Auden says, "Dance until the stars fall from the rafters... dance, dance until you drop." Dance is part of who I am, and I will do it forever. About ten years ago I turned my focus away from performing and toward teaching. When you teach, you learn, and I learn so many lessons from the young people I teach to dance.
In my spare time (what's left of it) I love to pursue lots of interests: cooking, baking, reading, hunting for antiques, retro culture, drawing, painting, the beach, yoga, fashion, old cars, questing to compete on Jeopardy, the list goes on.
I love learning. I never want to stop learning. Ten years from now I hope my list of careers and interests is twice as long and that I'm still celebrating my own uniqueness.
