Carol Harrus

A graduate of the Temple University School of Medicine, Dr. Carol Harrus completed her internship and residency in psychiatry at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She then entered a three-year psychiatry fellowship at the Stanford University School of Medicine. As a Fellow, she concentrated on working with children and adolescents at the Stanford University Medical Center.
In 1993, Dr. Harrus launched her private practice in Palo Alto. When she begins working with an individual, she conducts preliminary assessments, which she then uses to make treatment recommendations. While working with other specialists may be necessary, she also involves patients in determining a comprehensive treatment plan that will best suit their individual needs.
Dr. Harrus treats conditions that occur across all ages, including chronic pain, depression, stress, anxiety disorders, and obsessive behaviors. She also handles challenges faced by those of a certain age group, such as school problems that affect minors or sexuality issues in adults. Other issues in which Dr. Harrus has experience include attention deficit disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, adoption conflicts, relationship problems, gender issues, phobias, and eating disorders.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Carol Harrus pursues intensive training in psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California, where she is currently an advanced candidate. Dr. Harrus belongs to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Medical Association.
