PHILOSOPHY:

Presenting subjects in a way that catches children’s interests, caring about the students, and reiterating stories to help children further understand a topic. These are all attributes of the teachers that I have had that stand out in my memory. These role models have influenced my approach to teaching. I plan to portray these attributes and many more when teaching myself.

Teaching has been a love of mine since I was a little kid. I always loved interacting and playing with other children and people who were younger than me. My friend at the time would play “school” with me, and we would demonstrate the rules and responsibilities of a teacher: teaching a lesson, constructing math tests, marking tests, and helping the student. Playing school with my friend was one of the main memories I have of my childhood because it seemed so important to me and I loved it.

Throughout current placements I had helped out with a class, and it gave me a feeling before that I never had. I feel like I am a teacher when I help out a student and they are then able to take that information and complete their work because they understand it.

Creating relationships with the students is something I feel to be important when being a teacher, and I believe that relationships are key. By having that relationship with others, it is much easier to understand the children and see where they are coming from. Lessons can be based off these relationships from interacting and having that connection with the students. I will be able to recognize the interests of the children in the class and create lesson plans off of the topics they want to learn more about and enjoy.
