My new career in the Triathlon world via my creation of Triathleta Productions / Triathleta.com is the cumulative effect of falling in love with the sport of Triathlon in 1993. The introduction was serendipitous and nothing I had expected but realized soon after the Triathlon ‘bug’ had bit me, that I was in it for good. Like many triathletes I began as a runner, a sprinter actually. The idea of running a 5K was ridiculous, insane even, but all those years of track practice set the stage for the discipline needed to be a triathlete. The running distance idea seemed to increase more each day and soon 17 mile training runs didn’t appear so daunting. The cycling parts came simultaneously with the sprinting, in high school and was more of a way of travel and escape than sport, but again, years of practice and the base was formed. 50 to 90 mile weekend bike rides became a way of life. Long conversations about cycling gear, Triathlon race wheels, what bike for Triathlon was the best to invest in were all part of my Saturday mornings. Now for the part that was somewhat new to me. Swimming…that’s play time in the water, right? Laps, that’s a whole other version of swimming. With some help from an accomplished collegiate swimmer friend of mine as well as the help from my new Triathlete friends, I soon found my balance in the water. A friend once said, ‘her last name is Rivers, should it be any surprise that she is a natural in the water’.
And so the story continues, with a few pauses in my training and triathlon racing over the years, the Triathlon still moves me, physically and emotionally to do and be someone I never imagined but always expected. I work hard and play hard as a triathlete and in turn it fuels the fire to make others lives better through this sport as well.
