During Dave Matthews Band’s (DMB) song “One Sweet World”, there is a line that says “One only does the sun embrace”. We are reminded that we should not take for granted what is given to us. We are given one life and one chance to make what we want of our name. Because of this, I try to stay optimistic. At times I do deal with troubles, but in order to get through them I remind myself that in the end everything will work out. The sun reminds us that a new day will come. I can have faith in the fact that the sun will rise and set each day, just like I can have faith in the fact that there will always be new possibilities. Dave Matthews Band often sings uplifting words that reflect my beliefs. There is a common theme in many of them that encourages people to be worry free. One short and simple song is “Pantala Naga Pampa” which says, “Come and relax now. Put your troubles down. No need to bear the weight of your worries you let them all fall away”. Meditating on these few lines can truly change my attitude when I have become overwhelmed with my day. I must confess, that at times I live to much for the moment. Instead of doing what I should do, I do what would make me happiest in that moment. For instance, I may watch the new episode of New Girl instead of studying. “Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we’ll die”, another DMB lyric, suggests that because life is short we should ultimately always do what makes us happiest in the moment because we never know when our life will end. As life goes on, it seems like we have plenty of time, but in the end when we look back it will see as though it went by so quickly. Personally, I do not want to look back and realize I have not lived my life to its full potential.
