Carolyn Cole

A staff photographer for the Los Angeles Times, Carolyn Cole has earned several honors throughout her career for her work documenting conflict in foreign regions. In 2004, Carolyn Cole won a Pulitzer Prize in feature photography for her photographs of civil conflict in Liberia. Additionally, she has been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize five other years for her coverage of the political uprising in Kenya, the BP oil spill, conflicts between Israel and Palestine, and the Japanese earthquake. Other awards that she has received include the Robert Capa Award, the George Polk Award for Photojournalism, and the Sidney Hillman Award for Overall Excellence in Photojournalism.
Carolyn Cole studied photojournalism at the University of Texas in Austin and recently earned her master of fine arts in photography from Ohio University. She has worked at a number of notable publications, including the San Francisco Examiner, the Sacramento Bee, and the El Paso Herald Post. Ms. Cole assumed her current position at the Los Angeles Times in 1994.
