Carri Chen
Writer and Filmmaker in Toronto, ON, Canada
Toronto based Writer & Director.
Carri’s love for storytelling began as “the quirky kid in school that talks to herself” – luckily she learnt to channel these imaginary dialogues and scenarios into her notebooks. Nonetheless, she wants to give a voice to those that are underrepresented and inspire change in a peaceful manner. The act of shining light on untold and neglected stories drives her ambition of creating dialogue among varying audiences. Narratives have the ability to connect us to one another, and Carri devotes herself to that from a young age. Always with a bright smiles, she is open to new stories and experiences in hopes to expand her scope of understanding.
Currently the Co-Director & Co-Writer of a transmedia project called The Space Between, produced by Delta Epsilon Productions. The story is about an unfulfilled young woman who unexpectedly contemplates a lifetime of regret. She rediscovers her light when she comes face to face with the memories of a lost friendship that transcends space and time.
The story of friendship is told through a transmediated narrative experience, combining elements of linear storytelling and interactive audience explorations. Throughout this hybrid narrative experience, the story aims to evoke nostalgia, inspiration and introspection through explorations of themes of self-discovery and regret.
With The Space Between, she aims to create a compelling immersive narrative experience in hopes of expanding the potential of transmediated narratives. The exploration of new modes in experiential media prompts audiences to engage in the physical realm as the characters do on screen, making this an active experience rather than a passive one.
