A native of Los Angeles [Manhattan Beach & Hermosa Beach], Carrll Robilotta has traveled to several countries and lived amongst various cultures. He credits those experiences during his formative years with having moulded his character and perspective.
Carrll has resided in Maui since 1991. Prior to that, he and his family spent thirteen years living on the tiny Island of Montserrat in the British West Indies. "Montserrat is where my passion for photography was borne," Carrll explains; "I shot literally thousands of images, mostly of surfing--mostly of my brother (...the only other surfer on the Island!).
"I also began writing while in Montserrat. I enjoyed composing poetry, writing short stories, and essays," he continues. During his latter years in the Caribbean, Carrll worked as a columnist for one of Montserrat's weekly papers where he enjoyed doing profiles on interesting people in the community.
After moving to Hawai'i in 1990, Carrll was asked to photograph a wedding on O'ahu. This launched his career as a wedding & portrait photographer. Though he continued to write as a hobby as well as the text for his own websites, it wasn't until recently that he had the opportunity to combine his skills as a photographer and writer to begin a new chapter as a photo-journalist and blogger [please visit: www.MauiMadeLocal.com for some of Carrll's artist profiles].
Carrll enjoys photographing & writing about creative 'think-outside-the-box' people. "I'm inspired by artists, entrepreneurs, and non-conformists," he muses.
He aspires to one day write the next 'Great American Novel'. "I reckon it's simply a matter of cataloging Life's most noteworthy experiences and weaving them into a narrative," observes the journalist.
