Carter Murray

Carter Murray took helm of Draftfcb as chief executive officer in September 2013. He is known for his passion at championing his clients’ businesses, his teams and their work. Based in New York, Carter is responsible for overseeing Draftfcb’s 151 offices in 90 countries worldwide.

Carter has extensive experience helping clients develop and manage brands across all marketing disciplines. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Y&R Advertising’s North America.

Prior to that, he served as chief marketing officer and as a worldwide account director at Publicis Worldwide, based in Paris. He also was a member of Publicis’ executive committee. As the global leader of Publicis’ Nestle business, Carter drove double-digit growth across that account’s 80 markets and was roundly praised for exceptional results and client satisfaction throughout the network.

Carter served from 2004-2007 in London as regional new business director of Leo Burnett. From 2001-2004, he was a regional account director for Burnett, based in Frankfurt. He began his advertising career at Leo Burnett in Chicago as an account executive on the Philip Morris business.

Over the years, Nestle, Kraft, P&G, Hilton, Land Rover, Barclays, Marlboro, Del Monte and Coke are among the brands he has partnered with in markets including the U.S., U.K., Russia, Sweden, China, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and the Ukraine.

While charged with setting the agency’s strategic direction and ensuring operational excellence and growth, Carter is an admitted multi-tasker; he is skilled at working with diverse groups to create a cohesive culture that over-delivers and out-performs for the agencies and brands he stewards.

Murray is a Duke University graduate and lives in Manhattan with his wife.
