I am currently completing a PhD at Deakin.

It's a practice led research inquiry into the implications for post modern identity of contemporary ecological/environmental crisis, a eco-critical/creative thesis (novel).

This project will essentially be about the healing power of water. The research part of the thesis will include: scientific fact and research about water; the awe inspiring wonderment of its molecular make up and the environmental need for its survival, also, eastern and western philosophy and theology that uses water as a metaphor to teach us how to live better lives and art that uses water as its underpinning context.

The creative part of the thesis will be a narrative driven piece about a protagonist adapting to change in an existential way and evolving from life’s experiences in search of purity.

The purpose of this project is to highlight the beauty of water’s power and to draw upon connections in a spiritual, scientific and artistic way that will inspire in people an impetus to respect this incredibly important natural resource.

Every single person on the planet needs water to survive. Without fresh water you will die in just a few days. Plain and simple, it is a simple morbid fact that helps drive the point across, water equals life. Protecting our natural eco-systems from further damage is critical. People have lost complete respect for this important natural resource, it is imperative to bring this to the fore through a creative text utilizing, science, philosophy, religious belief and art.

For instance, 70% of the earth's surface is covered in water, but 97% of it is saltwater, which is unfit for human use. Of the remaining 3% of the world's water resources, only about 1% is readily available for human consumption.

There is no greater time than now really to be writing a thesis that looks at such problems in a theoretical and creative way that is digestible to people in the shape and form of a research and narrative piece.

Water in itself is also fascinating and one purpose of the project is to make ‘connections’ to differing religions, belief systems and science.
