Caryn is an artist who works in London and Norfolk. She has had exhibitions in London, Germany and in various parts of the UK. Her work has taken her into various fields within arts education as well as working in the studio. However 2015 sees the start of an exciting opportunity for Caryn to focus full time on her artwork. Currently she is working with ideas of subtle, abstract glimpses of narratives from the past. She has always been interested in presenting biographical narrative through different mediums including sound, video and sculpture. In the past work was mainly figurative. The figure has disappeared from her work since 2013 and shows no sign of returning. Painting is taking her attention. Work now is focused on the abstract whisper or cry from ageing, decaying or stripped surfaces of walls. Walls bare witness to lives and times spent within or outside of a space. They are receptacles of history, they hide secrets, they block, shelter, show off, evolve, decay. Walls have ears and eyes…changing and reflecting life like a chameleon.
The allure of the happy accident and delicate fusion (aural or visual) when layering components has always been evident in Caryn’s work. She works spontaneously with minimal planning…..ideas evolve in her head or before her eyes rather than on paper.
Sometimes, just because she can.....Caryn works simply to create and find a space to play with marks, colour, line, texture....whatever feels right at the time. No agenda, no idea....just a lot of fun. Art, in this case, has no walls.
