Let me introduce myself.
I’m Carys, the creator behind British Foodie. English is my first language, and I studied in North East England (Liverpool), but I have never had the chance to live in the British Isles for long. Honestly, I don’t know if in the future I will live in the British Isles or somewhere far in Asia. However, I want to pass on my roots to my kids and teach them what real British food tastes like. That’s why I’ve been creating British recipes since 2017, when I started contributing to another food blog. What began as a job has turned into a passion for uncovering old, authentic, and often forgotten British recipes.
Let’s start at the beginning.
I'm obsessed with traveling and trying new foods, particularly Asian cuisine—Chinese, Korean, and Indian. Nevertheless, growing up on British food, I always felt there was more to explore beyond the cakes in the old BERO recipe book, pies, and casseroles. While British cuisine still influences many countries, authentic British restaurants are rare outside the British Isles. Many offer versions of British food heavily influenced by chain restaurants and fast food.
So, I decided to delve into the hidden gems of British cuisine, which goes beyond just fish and chips. I wanted to put a spotlight on food such as creamy fish soups typical of coastal towns to healthy kedgeree for breakfast. I started by raiding my family’s recipe books and discovered that every kitchen has its own take on the classics. Some of my favourite recipes featured on the blog include Welsh Cakes, Ham and Pease Pudding, Rhubarb Crumble, Scottish Macaroni and Cheese Pie, and Cranachan.
I welcome you to join me on this journey and follow my recipes on Facebook and Pinterest.
