The majority of my time at UMass was spent in the marching band. What I have learned from being in the Marching Band at UMass has taught me so much about myself and about life itself. Our late director had many starred thoughts, this one in particular is my favorite:

"You are at your best when things are at their worst." -George N. Parks, University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band Director 1977-2010

This statement can apply to all aspects of life but is particularly relevent to hospitality. Even on a hectic day when everything seems to be going wrong, having the ability to make people happy no matter what the situation, is true hospitality. A degree cannot give you the personality and charm to make guests feel comfortable, it is something that you embody.
