Cassie Smith-Christmas

My thesis looks at the language shift, maintenance, and code-switching patterns of three generations of bilingual Gaelic-English speaking family located on the Isle of Skye and Isle of Harris, Scotland. Previous publications include 'Gaelic on the Isle of Skye: older speakers' identity in a language shift situation (International Journal of the Sociology of Language, 2009).

Research interests include minority languages, language contact, conversational analysis, and discourse analysis. Personal interests include traditional Celtic music, creative writing, and travel.
