Cather­ine is a free­lance jour­nal­ist in the San Fran­cisco Bay Area. Her work has been pub­lished in TIME, the Bay Cit­i­zen, Ms. mag­a­zine, the Huff­in­g­ton Post, and broad­casted on CBS Radio.

She grew up in the Philip­pines and in the United States and her report­ing inter­ests reflect her transna­tional back­ground: She has pro­filed polit­i­cal pris­on­ers in Manila, reported on the gen­dered impacts of immi­gra­tion enforce­ment in Phoenix and writ­ten about the curi­ous rise of women polit­i­cal lead­ers in Asia.

She is a master's stu­dent at the U.C. Berke­ley Grad­u­ate School of Jour­nal­ism and an assis­tant fea­tures edi­tor at Hyphen, a national Asian Amer­i­can mag­a­zine focused on arts, cul­ture and pol­i­tics.
