“Interesting” is a strong word in my opinion. For my obnoxiously unextraordinary life to qualify as even the least bit interesting, I’d have to fall into a vat of toxic waste and grow an extra arm. However, as the likelihood of that happening is similar to that of me graduating in four years, I guess I'll discuss my interest in photography.
I’ve always loved visual arts, although unfortunately I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to drawing and painting. While most of my art teachers in high school had become accustomed to expecting my pieces around 3 weeks after their due dates, some did not, so I signed up for photography. I figured it’d be hard for me to turn in photos late, one click and you’re done right?
Almost immediately after my first year in Photo 1 began, I became enamoured with photography. My projects were still routinely late, but I found myself actually attending full weeks of high school, which for me, was absolutely unprecedented. I was obsessed with every aspect of photography; digital, film, portraiture, landscapes, and I cannot even begin to describe the fun I had with our various projects in photoshop. I then started posting my pieces to a photography site online, and it became a bit of a hobby. I took my camera everywhere, and learned new photoshop techniques in my free time. I even attempted to make my newfound hobby profitable by taking senior pictures for my friends, although my passive-to-a-fault personality never allowed me to agree to being paid for the work.
Although there’s little financial gain in a typical photography career, I hope that if anything, a minor in photography will motivate me to attend my college classes the way it helped in high school.
