Cathy Fitzgerald understands the key role creativity has in humanising and localising sustainability.

In 2019, as a self-directed doctoral endeavour, she created what is now known as Haumea Ecoversity - providing transformative ecoliteracy for creative professionals, changemakers, educators and cultural leaders .

This work evolved from her first-hand challenges in obtaining an life-sustaining education in higher arts education and her significant work in developing holistic transversal creative practices to engender woodland and peatland restoration and regeneration>

Background:

Combining experience in research biology & contemporary art practice (with an art practice PhD in Visual Culture) she has considerable knowledge of international art & sustainability policy and eco-social art practice.

She has also been involved in policy development for new-to-Ireland continuous cover forestry and for highlighting developing international law against ecocide.

Her PhD Thesis title is 'The Ecological Turn: Living Well with Forests to Articulate Eco-Social Art Practice using a Guattari ecosophy and action research framework.' Her PhD that combined art, forestry and politics drew from her ongoing forest transformation work The Hollywood Forest Story

She is an Irish-based New Zealander living since the mid90s, in rural South East Ireland. Ireland is the home of her ancestors.
