Cátia Vide

Hi! I'm Cátia Vide, a portuguese illustrator and graphic designer based in Lisbon.

I've been working in several fields including picturebooks, editorial, commercial, animation, among others, mostly dedicated to children for worldwide clients. Also, in my free time, I dedicate myself to creating illustrated pieces for my online shop.

I like to explore the mixed technique where I mix digital with analogue textures such as stamps, letterpress, crayons, pencils, ink, paper collage and draw. My color palette consists of happy colors and inclusive, with big contrast for children with color blindness. You will see in my illustrations characters with yellow or pink skin, hairless or with giant glasses, men in high heels or women with ties, homosexual or hetero couples, fat, long, square or triangular bodies, sometimes realistic and others exaggerated, because I feel the need to express my own voice in my work, my vision about the world, and this is just because for me preconceptions are wrong and I bealieve we must teach to children that, specially in times like this we are now living.

Whenever possible, I also like to think about our planet, using recycled and/or recyclable materials, local, fairtrade and thinking about a project with a second purpose/life.
