Cat Machado
Toronto
Hello there, I am Cat Machado.
I've recently begun studying journalism at Ryerson University with the intention that it will answer some of my questions while in turn prompting me to ask my own.
Entering the literary world through the stream of journalism was not my primary intention. On that note, I am not on this path just to be labelled a "journalist". I intend to write from the core of an issue, the heart of the matter if you will, to spread the truth. A mantra that would align with my view is "the truth will set you free", as it should and as it will.
Another reason I have recently grown quite keen on journalism is the borderless nature of the practice. This comes through in more ways than one. I like how involved you can be physically in an issue but at the end of the day, you must write with a neutral tone. This allows for balance and accuracy. On a more obvious note, journalism is borderless in the sense that you can travel with a purpose that seems so direct and later realized you discovered something you never expected.
It is the nature of journalism that promotes me to seek, to think and to know.
A day will come when the picture clearer as to what it is I find, whether I expected to find it or not, and what it is I will know. I am comfortably however, for the mean time, in allowing myself to step into a practice set on curiousity that troubles you until you find the truth.
To end off on a dreadfully tacky note, curiousity killed the cat, and I dare to be bold enough to do the same just to know.
