A short history of Charlotte

In 1780, Charlotte was the location of a battle that would later be called the Battle of Charlotte. British General Cornwallis and his men entered the Queen City and were met by intense fire from 150 brave militiamen. Cornwallis had to eventually abandon Charlotte, calling it a “hornet’s nest of rebellion.”Charlotte was also very influential in the Civil war about 100 years later and, unlike some of its neighbors, prospered after this war by embracing the idea of the “new south.” In the years after the Civil War, Charlotte became a leader in cotton manufacturing and was a role model for the area. Today, Charlotte continues to be very influential not just to the south but to the country as a whole. Charlotte shines in many areas such as sports, being the home of the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte hornets!
