Albany NY area
Originally from NJ, I now live in Upstate NY in the Albany / Capital Region area with my wife and kids on 55 acres in the country. My property is bigger than the entire city block I grew up on in NJ, lol. It's like a private nature preserve and it backs up to 4000 acres of state forest. It's isolated and quiet, most of the time. Just the way we like it!
I've worked in IT since 1986 with a brief 5 year stint working as a realtor from 2005 to 2010. I sold 25 homes in total, more in the last year than the first 4 years combined, but that wasn't generating sufficient income for us to live comfortably, so I returned to IT in 2010. I was successful in learning how homes are priced and how to market and sell them, so I still consider that a win!
Since 2010 I've mostly worked from home, as an IT Consultant. In 2015 I began working on-site in Albany NY for NYS, and in 2018, the CTO made me an offer I couldn't refuse, which allows me work mostly from home (but it did cut my pay in half, ugh). So now I'm a state employee. I run a program and process engineering team, which includes several groups. I love what I do and I'm told I'm really good at it!
My kids are real go-getters and not afraid of hard work, unless of course you talk about helping out with chores at home, lol.
My oldest son works in Alabama teaching military student pilots how to do specific maneuvers in Cessna 172's. His job is to weed out those student pilots who simply won't cut it as military aviators.
My oldest daughter went to school to be a cosmetician, and while she did work for a while in that industry, decided to take a job as a Teachers Assistant. She does hair, makeup, babysits and she bakes - which generates enough money for her to have fun with cosplays and all of her hobbies.
My youngest daughter is a gymnastics instructor and former state champ gymnast! She also babysits and house sits. She's in a 2 year long relationship and they're having fun. care about each other and treat each other very well, which is as it should be.
My youngest son is working in his first real job, learning computer installation and networking. His goal is to be a pen-tester and learn to break into computer systems, and get paid for it. He wants to learn to trade in the stock market too! I remember the first time I made more income in the stock market playing a split on Qualcomm overnight than I grossed at my IT Manager job all year long. It was an eye opener! Hopefully he can learn to do the same!
