Helium leak detection is a highly sensitive and quantitative method used to evaluate the integrity of sealed systems and packaging. The process uses helium as a tracer gas due to its small atomic size, inert nature, and ability to pass through extremely fine leak paths. When a component or package is exposed to helium under controlled conditions, any escaping gas is detected by a mass spectrometer, allowing precise measurement of the actual leak rate. This technique is widely used in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, aerospace, and other critical industries where even microscopic leaks can compromise safety, sterility, or performance.
