Helium leak detection is a highly sensitive and quantitative method used to evaluate the integrity of sealed systems and packaging. The process uses helium as a tracer gas due to its small atomic size, inert nature, and ability to pass through extremely fine leak paths. When a component or package is exposed to helium under controlled conditions, any escaping gas is detected by a mass spectrometer, allowing precise measurement of the actual leak rate.
