Hello All! My name is Christiana Cotter. A little bit about myself... This is my second year teaching 6th grade math at Liberty Middle School. Go Patriots! I came to this sunny state all the way from Tennessee. Math was my first love and I am very passionate about it. I am required to do a blog for one of my graduate school classes and here it is! I will be discussing topics dealing with Technology in Education, my life as a teacher and sharing other resources that I find helpful. With that being said.... Lets Go!!!!!!
Random things about me:
1. I have visited over 40 states, but I've never traveled outside of the U.S.
2. I went to 4 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, two high schools and 1 college. (And to clarify my parents were not in the army. I just think my mother is a nomad LOL)
3. I am deathly afraid of ladybugs.
4. I have 5 brothers and 1 sister.
5. I have a 7 year old daughter who I am crazy about.
My Philosophy of Teaching
A teacher’s philosophy of Education is an important element in his or her approach to guiding children along the path of enlightenment. My idea of the perfect teacher is one who inspires learning in addition to just the required facts. A certain amount of creativity, enthusiasm, and motivation is required of the teacher. These are definitely a high order for anyone in a profession. However, considering that children are our future, the effort is worth it. Every classroom presents a unique community of learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. Our role as teachers is to give children the tools with which to cultivate their own ideas of knowledge. To accomplish this goal, I will teach to the needs of each child so that all learners can feel capable and successful. I will present curriculum that involves the interests of the children and makes learning relevant to life. I will incorporate themes, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning in order to make children active learners. Finally, I will tie learning into the world community to help children become caring and active members of society.
