Christine Cox

I earned my master's degree in Library and Infomation Science from Kent State University in August 2010. My studies focused on Youth Services in Public libraries with an enphasist in Teen services. My courses gave me the skills to preform reader advisories and wide range of children's literature and authors. I completed my practicum at the Akron Summit County Public Library; it gave me experience at almost all of their branches and allowed me to participate in many different programs, from story time to teen and family programs.

I am also a member of the American Library Association and its subsidiaries: Association for Library Services to Children and Young Adult Library Services Association. Membership in theses organizations grants me knowledge of new popular authors, upcoming and current trends, and allows me to continue my professional development. My passion for children's services makes me a great choice for this position.

My years as a page, circulation clerk and program volunteer at the Hudson Library and Historical Society add to my worth as a candidate for this position. I have the knowledge on how small libraries are run, and the understanding of the importance of keeping patrons happy. I am also well versed in using automated library systems such as Sirsi-Dynix Symphony and Millennium. I have also used Microsoft products such as Word, Publisher and Excel. I have written several handouts for my co-workers instructing them how to use Clevnet's new online catalog, sending a Word document as an e-mail attachment and updating out of date flyers.
