Over the course of his career in family and occupational medicine, Dr. Cedric Fernando has amassed an impressive record of professional achievement, with notable accomplishments as a company physician, medical review officer (MRO), and clinical professor. After graduating from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine with an M.D., Dr. Cedric Fernando entered into an internship at the East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine. The recipient of the Outstanding Intern Award in 1984, Dr. Cedric Fernando would build upon his impeccable background during his subsequent residency in family medicine at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, becoming Chief Resident in 1986 and winning the Chairman’s Leadership Award in 1987. Following completion of his residency, Dr. Cedric Fernando earned fellowship in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), received certification from the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), and began a lengthy period as a practitioner and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine – roles he performs to this day. Among his numerous professional commitments, Dr. Cedric Fernando serves the Erwin, Tennessee-based Unicoi County Memorial Hospital as Medical Director of the Occupational Health Department, where he devotes his time and energy to the development and administration of comprehensive occupational health programs to companies in and around Eastern Tennessee. In this regard, Dr. Cedric Fernando performs all manner of pre-employment evaluations, workplace substance abuse monitoring, preventative health screenings and vaccinations, treatment of work-related injuries, and more.
