Celeste Goulding
Artist in Australia
I am an Australian artist whose work centres on symbolic figures, often expressed through the feminine form, to explore memory, emotion, and private mythology. My paintings investigate the interior world: the quiet spaces where identity, lineage, and imagination meet.
Working primarily in watercolour and gouache, I create images that are intimate, psychological, and quietly narrative. The figures in my work arise from lived experience and personal symbolism, shaped by the subtle emotional currents that move beneath daily life. Though they take a feminine form, their meaning is universal — an invitation for viewers of any background to recognise something of their own interior world.
I have been painting for more than fifty years, moving through illustration, Indian‑influenced aesthetics, and academic study before arriving at the deeply personal symbolic language I use today. My heritage and history inform the emotional architecture of my work, while the imagery remains open, reflective, and quietly resonant.
My current practice is defined by slowness, detail, and a commitment to the contemplative spaces where imagination and memory meet. Each painting is a small, self‑contained world: a place where symbols gather, stories settle, and the unseen becomes visible.
