Cells for Life
Cells for Life Cord Blood Institute is an umbilical blood banking and stem cell storage facility in Canada. Cells for Life is one of the first cord blood companies in Canada. Founded in 1997 by medical professionals, Cells for Life is still managed by a team of doctors, scientists and registered nurses. The medical director, Obstetrician Dr. Michael Virro is supported by a team of clinical educators, all of whom have extensive experience in labour, delivery and paediatrics.
Cells for Life have established long term relationships with a number of hospitals, clinics, medical and birthing professionals throughout all of Canada. This ensures quality throughout the entire process. Over the past 17 years, Cells for Life have stored over 36,000 cord blood units. All blood units collected by Cells for Life are stored at Toronto General Hospital.
All Cells for Life service, clinical educators and laboratory personnel are qualified trained practitioners. All nurses are experienced in labour and delivery as well as paediatrics. Stem Cell Lab staff have Bachelors, Masters and PHD degrees in Science. They are specifically trained in cord blood stem cell processing, freezing and storage. All staff are involved in continuing education programs to ensure all training is current and exceptional.
Cells for Life is the only Canadian cord blood bank to be located in a hospital setting, the Toronto General Hospital. This contributes to increased protection and timely delivery of samples through priority response, 24 hour protection and quick access, thus increasing the safety of the cord blood stem cells.
