@cathal is a Professor at the School of Computing, at Dublin City University and the Head of the Adapt Centre at DCU. His research interest is personal analytics and lifelogging (a search engine for the self). He has personally gathered a digital memory since 2006 (incl. over 18 million wearable camera images) and billions of other data points; probably the largest lifelog in the world. His research develops new types of assistive technology for healthcare, human memory and productivity enhancement. His research has been featured internationally on Discovery Channel, BBC, NHK, as well as in the Economist magazine, New York Times, among many others. He jointly founded the international NTCIR-Lifelog, ImageCLEF-lifelog and Lifelog Search Challenge collaborative evaluation campaigns, and he is a co-organiser of the Dublin Quantified-Self meetup.
