I'm a beard-growing, bacon-loving multimedia journalist interested in veterans' issues, entrepreneurship, startups and the ways technology can make us more human. People using innovation to bring people together, improve lives or make the world (or just a neighborhood in it) a better place inspire me. But, I'm also interested in journalism that holds powerful people and institutions accountable - and the technology that makes that possible.

Over the summer, I was the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation Business Journalism Fellow for the national News21 project "Back Home," investigating the charities that have benefited most from America's support of veterans and military families in the years since 9/11. It was an idea I personally pitched to both News21 editor Len Downie Jr. and Andrew Leckey, president of the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism, and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.

My passion for writing and photography - both of which have been my hobbies since grade school - along with growing interests in video and social media, led me to study journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where I'm currently in the final semester of the master's program. This fall, I'm reporting for Cronkite News Service from the Washington, D.C. bureau, and seeking employment to begin as early as December 2013.
