Chalchisa Abdeta
PhD candidate in Australia
I am completing my PhD at the University of Wollongong, Australia, contributing to global physical activity surveillance. My research focuses on 24-hour movement behaviours—physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep—and their influence on health and development in early childhood. I lead several surveillance initiatives in Ethiopia, in collaboration with the SUNRISE international study, Global Matrix initiatives and GoPA! country card. My work aims to understand these areas and promote healthier lifestyles among children. This reflecting my deep-seated commitment to global child health research. I was honoured with the 2022 Outstanding Higher Degree Research Proposal Award from the University of Wollongong’s School of Education and the Patrice L. Engle Dissertation Grant in Early Child Development from the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD), United States. I volunteer with the ISPAH Early Career Network as the AFRO regional representative and am an active member of professional societies including ISPAH, SRCD, ASPA, ISBNPA, SBRN, and ISUH. My journey continues towards shaping physical activity policy, surveillance, and research in children. For more visit here
