Chandulal Dhanani
Entrepreneur in South Africa
I’m Chandulal Dhanani, an entrepreneur and philanthropist with a passion for sustainable development and community empowerment. My journey has taken me from a small village to founding Dhanani Sustainable Ventures, where my focus is on creating a positive impact in agriculture, ethical textiles, and environmental conservation. I believe in integrating traditional methods with innovative practices to benefit communities and respect our planet.
Growing up, I was deeply influenced by the rhythms of rural life and the knowledge passed down by generations of farmers. This inspired me to pursue a degree in Agricultural Sciences and later an MBA, grounding me in both the science of sustainable practices and the strategies for making them viable on a larger scale. Over time, I came to see how industries like textiles and agriculture could benefit not only from improved ecological practices but also from empowering the people involved.
In 2000, I established Dhanani Sustainable Ventures as a platform to support sustainable agriculture, fair labor, and eco-friendly textile production. Working closely with local artisans and farmers across Africa and Asia, I’ve aimed to create opportunities that offer both economic stability and a commitment to environmental stewardship. My team and I focus on organic farming, ethical sourcing, and innovative production methods, ensuring that our practices honor both the people and the land involved.
Beyond business, my passion lies in community support. Through our foundation, I’m able to fund educational initiatives, healthcare services, and cultural preservation projects. One of my ongoing projects is recording the oral histories of communities, capturing voices that might otherwise be lost. I’ve always believed that by preserving cultural stories, we create a richer, more resilient future.
My work is guided by the belief that every business decision should benefit people and the environment, fostering sustainable growth that lasts. For me, this journey is about more than building a company—it’s about building a legacy that respects both humanity and nature.
