Wei-Han Chang
Cambridge
Chang Wei-Han is an artist who is interested in the creativity of the world. Graduated from BA Journalism and continuously studying Master of Fine Art course in Cambridge, Chang doubts the power of rules provided from the human civilizations which might have been causing a lack of play in the adult world. Trying to break through the boundary of human society, Chang reframes the symbols of play from her childhood memories and samples different elements in historical traditions. Her work tends to consist of playful live events of plagiarising objects from the world, expecting to interact with the viewers. Chang's past contemporary work can be found in the curatorial group show of MFA--Room 104 (2012) in Cambridge. Her installation art work Taiwanese Night Market rearranged a view of far east culture in a corner of the studio of the Ruskin Gallery. By continuously questioning the power of rules in the exhibiting place--gallery, the show turned out to be a participatory, playful and enjoyable event with balloons, arrows, toys, glow sticks, candies, a pinball game and videos from YouTube. Recently, Chang is interested in reprogramming a historical activity in an opened area with her audience, in order to release the limitations within the structure of a city.
