Hello everybody! My name is Chantel Yeboah (she/her), and I am 19 years old. I am a second-year Biology major with a minor in Environment Health Science. I am also on the pre-optometry track. My love for public health grew when I took my First Year Odyssey seminar in Food Science. In this course, we discussed food-borne pathogens which related the two topics of food- one of my favorite things and public health.

I am a first-generation American. Both of my parents are from Ghana, West Africa. I am very in tune with my culture. I enjoy the food and I speak Twi, a dialect of the Akan language spoken by many people in Ghana. I have visited Ghana in 2015 but I am making serious plans to return next summer. I have two younger siblings, one that is a freshman in college and a freshman in high school.

I currently have plans to be an optometrist. I recently developed an interest in optometry when I had an internship in an optometry office during my senior year of high school. You may be trying to find the correlation between environmental health science and optometry. My life goal is to build a clinic in Ghana to help people in that country with various ocular diseases. That ties to public health and optometry. With the support of peers and family, I hope this career plan comes to pass.

I truly enjoy gardening and cooking. I also enjoy volunteering. Being able to help people in a vulnerable state gratifies me. My favorite TV show is called ‘Revenge’ and I recommend it to everyone that I come across. My favorite book is called “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Backman. I hope that you have learned a little about me!
