Chantel Green

Jacksonville, North Carolina

I fancy myself a storyteller.

I currently work for The Virginian-Pilot Media Companies as sports editor of The Globe, a weekly newspaper serving the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune community and surrounding areas.

I'm a one-man show and learned how to use a DSLR camera my first day on the job as sports editor. Since first learning, I've improved with practice and have come to respect and enjoy photography. I hold the title of editor, but the majority of my time is spent writing and reporting. My life consists of interviews, sacrificial Saturdays and endless amounts of red ink, but I wouldn't want it any other way.

In addition to the newspaper, I also contribute to the quarterly Coastal Carolina Parent magazine, bi-annual Wedding Day magazine, and annual Corps Couture and Heroes at Home magazines. I write a minimum of four articles for each of these publications while maintaining focus on the newspaper. My career as a young journalist is exhausting but incredibly rewarding.

I studied broadcast journalism at The University of Houston where I got my feet wet in fashion journalism during my freshman year interning as a blogger for Singer22.com. Writing and fashion studies have always been two of my greatest confidants.

My weekends in college were spent on the football field as a cheerleader for my university, assuming my officer duties in my sorority, serving as the university's homecoming co-chair or contributing to the Student Video Network.

I'm originally from Texas but reside in North Carolina because my husband is a United States Marine currently stationed at Camp Lejeune. We are about to celebrate our one-year wedding anniversary, but have known each other for 20-years since our first kiss when we were three-years-old at a wedding.
