Chap was born in Ashtabula, OH, and raised in Conyers, GA. He graduated with a BA in Music from Presbyterian College in 200o. He attended General Theological Seminary in New York, and trained as a chaplain at Bellevue Hospital.

Chap has worked for Episcopal Relief and Development, Amalgamated Bank, Episcopal Migration Ministries, WITNESS, and Pro Mujer, serving as an operations manager and development officer, as well as a database manager, specializing in Salesforce. He currently serves as a development temp for the Council for Economic Education.

Additionally, Chap is the owner of Gathering Leaves Family Research, a boutique genealogy service.

His hobbies include LGBT activism, NYC politics, and maintaining his cooking blog One Chap's Pantry (deaghaidhrecipes.wordpress.com)

Chap lives in Astoria, NY with his two cape-and-mantle, black and white piebald American shorthair cats, Violet and Isobel.
