Chapo Lopez
Los Angeles California United States
Chapo (Adrian) Lopez is an East Los Angeles native artist obsessed with contrasting color. His use of bright rich colors and opposing dark tones give his work uncommon depth. His medium is exclusively up cycled wood and acrylics with assertive stroke patterns and brush marks, creating dimensions that transmit powerful emotion.
Chapo’s compulsion for paint has propagated for over 20 years now. He draws inspiration from his life experience as a first generation American citizen. Born of humble Mexican immigrants, he was forced to converge a third world mentality with American ideology, creating a cultural hybrid where ideas and emotions can often clash in attempts to assimilate two worlds.
His unique perspective and inner city urban experience coupled with his innate need to ingeniously create, allow for a true emotional experience for the viewer. The emotional range conveyed in his art can vary from an eerie hopelessness to light hearted whimsy.
