It all started with my parents zealous approach at repopulating the world.
I remember holding my freshly birthed baby brother at age 4 and thinking, "Whoa. This is a fat baby." Because it clearly had nothing to do with my lack of arm strength. Nope. Fat baby.
All in all there wound up being 4 of us, all blonde and blue eyed little Nordic dreams, except Kathryn, she had freckles and brown hair and slapped boys and was a general badass.
I digress. There were a lot of us. As a result mom and dad had to shop in bulk at one of those big warehouse-looking stores. Not going to play favorites *cough* Sam's Club *cough* just one where the boxes of cereal could feed a small country and the juice only comes in gallons. A child's paradise, except I thought we were poor and felt bad asking for things I wanted. Being the oldest and "more mature" I thought this a great, noble sacrifice. So I made a deal with the 'rents, and guaranteed I wouldn't ask for ANYthing if they got me ONE thing from the store everytime we went. See what I did there? From then on, once a month I collected my prize. This was always inevitably a 5 count set of Nancy Drew mysteries.
Nancy Drew, for those whose parents have clearly failed you, was only THE BEST MOST AMAZING DETECTIVE OF ALL TIME. And as such, only had THE BEST MOST AMAZING ADVENTURES OF ALL TIME with her besties for the resties Bess and George.
Nancy was the tits. She drove a cool car, had an athletic boyfriend, and always had a life threatening escape RIGHT before solving difficult mysteries with abstract clues.
But all this paled in comparison to her complete embrace of travel.
This girl had explored castles and opera houses, "haunted" specialty shops and plantations, all by the age of 18. I knew I would never be the same. She became my spirit animal.
My parents encouraged my curiousity for life and adventurous free spirit by whisking me and my devoted subjects (aka siblings) away to Mexico when I was 8. There I desecrated empty Catholic churches with my roller skates and stumbled upon panthers in the jungle. I developed a craving for life so intense that when I came stateside, all my friends' melodramatic middle school breakups bored me to near tears.
I realized then that I was different. My world was bigger. Explore it with me on Instagram and make it bigger with ideas or world thoughts by DM. I love new friends from weird places, or weird friends from new places :) Ciao!
