Charlene Gardiner
Project Manager and Small Business Owner in The Bahamas
I started my business because I wanted to continue the legacy of my family's farming tradition and invest in my own farm. I come from a long line of farmers – my grandparents and parents were farmers who grew fruits and vegetables to sell in the community. I was worried that their passion for farming would fade away after they passed on. Unlike my siblings, I have a strong passion for farming, and it's something that I deeply care about.
A dedicated farming professional with over 8 years of experience in sustainable agriculture. I began my career at Charlene Gardiner Farm as an Agri-Entrepreneur. I became the Farm Manager, a role I have held since March 2016. My responsibilities include overseeing daily farm operations, managing crop production, and implementing sustainable farming practices to enhance yield while minimizing environmental impact. I also train new staff in farming techniques and safety protocols.
Our farm is located on limestone-rich soils, a challenge for large-scale farming due to its demanding nature and financial burden. Despite this, I have continued my family's legacy, leveraging my passion for permaculture, horticulture, and landscaping to overcome these challenges.
I hold a non-farm-related college degree. Throughout my career, I have pursued various certifications, including Organic Farming Practices, Pest Management, and Soil Health Management. Additionally, My writings are an enhancement to my passion for farming. I have written several case studies. Since 2023, I have been working on a case study. I also have blog articles as a guest writer on raising my chickens. And, many articles on farming are hosted on my website. www.charlenegardiner.com
