Charles Hansard has over 30 years experience in the investment industry as a professional and in a non-executive capacity. He commenced his career in South Africa in 1972, where he spent five years initially with one of the world’s leading mining companies, Anglo American Corporation and subsequently with Fleming Martin, stockbrokers (later to become JPMorgan Cazenove), as a mining analyst. He spent five years in New York working for Hambros Bank specializing in fixed income markets. He returned to London in 1984 as a co-founder of IFM Ltd., one of the earliest European hedge fund managers where he traded fixed income and commodities.
Mr Hansard has over 15 years experience of corporate governance at board level. He was chairman of African Platinum Plc, which he led through reorganization and feasibility prior to its acquisition by Impala Platinum Ltd., for $500 million in 2006. He served on the board of NYSE listed Apex Mines from 2001 until 2006.
He has been a non-executive director of the funds managed by Moore Capital Inc since 1996 where assets under management exceed $15 billion. Mr Hansard has been a director of Deutsche Bank’s, $30 billion, AAA rated, Global Liquidity Fund Ltd., since 2000. He was approved by the French Commission Bancaire in 2009, to provide board oversight for Banque AIG and has been an independent non-executive director of AIG Asset Management (Europe) Ltd since 2013. He is a non-executive director of Baker Steel Resources Trust, a UK-listed vehicle for a leading specialist fund manager in the natural resources sector. He serves on the board of Electrum Limited, a privately owned entity which specializes in mining investments for a US family office. He is a founding shareholder and non-executive director of Midway Resources International which is developing an onshore gas field in Lamu Province, Kenya. Mr Hansard holds a B.B.S. from Trinity College Dublin.
