Charles L. Norman has worked for over 30 years in the field of educational leadership and administration, specializing in extension, adult, and continuing education. Charles L. Norman has worked for three different universities in that time; he has both acted as an extension agent for a single county and directed programs worth millions of dollars in cross-state research and evaluation efforts.
Unlike his later studies, Charles L. Norman’s undergraduate studies at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, focused not on education, but on plant and soil science, though he did minor in education and politics. When he graduated from Middle Tennessee State and continued his education at The University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, he pursued a Master of Agricultural Extension. Following reception of his doctorate, Charles L. Norman pursued a number of fellowships in the United States and abroad. In 1987, Charles L. Norman became a Fellow of the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy in Washington, D.C. From 1994 to 1997, he was a Kellogg National Fellow of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. Also in 1997, he was a Fellow of The Salzburg Institute in Salzburg, Austria.
Charles L. Norman’s career has carried him through two states and as many countries. He first worked in an educational leadership role at The University of Georgia, the same school where he studied for his Master’s degree and doctorate. After his 12-year stint there, Mr. Norman moved on to The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He served for more than 17 years in a number of administrative positions at the University of Tennessee. Currently, Charles L. Norman serves as Dean of the School of Continuing Education, one of six schools within the American University in Cairo, Egypt. The school teaches approximately 38,000 adult and continuing education students in a variety of subjects including business, English, Arabic, and computer and information technology.
