Charles Chinwendu Nwaezeis a Nigerian medical student, climate-health advocate, and youth development leader committed to advancing sustainable development through education, public health, and climate action. He is a student of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Jos, where he combines rigorous academic training with impactful community service, policy engagement, and youth-led innovation.
He is the Founder of #UnlockBigChange9JA, a youth-driven initiative dedicated to empowering underserved communities through climate education, public health outreach, tree planting, digital and social innovation, and humanitarian action. Through this platform and allied projects, Charles has led school-based climate education programs, national book donation drives, rural health outreaches, recycling demonstrations, and youth capacity-building workshops, all strategically aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Charles has held several influential leadership and advocacy roles at national and global levels. He is the immediate past Director of SDGs of the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) and a UNICEF Nigeria Youth Advisory Board Member for Generation Unlimited (YPAT), TheirWorld Ambassador, Climate Cardinals member, and a founding member of the Youth Climate Council of Nigeria.
In recognition of his growing influence in climate research and policy, Charles was recently appointed as a Member of the Committee on Africa Youth Climate Research at UNESCO, where he contributes to strengthening youth-led research, evidence-based advocacy, and indigenous knowledge systems across the African continent. His work has earned him several accolades, including the Nigerian SDGs Spotlight Award (2024) and a nomination for the Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze category in 2025).
Internationally, Charles has contributed to climate–health policy dialogues, including Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) updates, spoken at high-level platforms such as UN General Assembly side events, selected to attend the 2025 African Climate Week at Addis Ababa. He has completed advanced training at the Barcelona Institute of Global Health in climate science, citizen science, and implementation science. His work sits at the intersection of climate change, public health, youth leadership, and social innovation, with a long-term vision to build resilient communities and unlock big, people-centered change across Africa.
