CharlieJ has been an avid photographer since age eight, when he was given his first camera for Christmas. From that moment, Charlie's dream was to become a professional photographer. For his sixteenth birthday, instead of asking for a car, Charlie asked for a 35mm camera. He received a Pentax K1000. CharlieJ took that camera to school and earned a spot as a high school newspaper & yearbook photographer; an assignment Charlie also carried into his college years in Hawaii.

While living on Oahu, CharlieJ worked as the assistant manager of a large camera store in the heart of tourist mecca, Waikiki. Charlie helped several well known photographers with equipment & supplies during the 1980's "A Day in the Life of Hawaii" book project. He was also a local rock concert photographer and tourist photographer -- selling concert and island attraction photos to vacationers worldwide.

Upon returning to the mainland, Charlie set aside his lifelong dream to focus on a "normal" career and family -- all the while never completely letting go of the childhood dream of being a professional photographer. Charlie continued to pursue photography as a hobby, often participating in photography club events, workshops, live seminars and webinars. He has studied under Hanson Fong, Rachel Stephens, Susan Torregrosa, Lindsey Adler and others.

After suffering a major heart attack in 2012, much prayer, leaving a long career in I.T. and rearranging of priorities, CharlieJ was lead to a decision -- step out in faith and be what he always dreamed of becoming, a professional photographer. From that decision, CharlieJ Photography became a reality.

Today, CharlieJ is a award-winning, sought-after photographer in the Carolina's. His online Flickr portfolio regularly receives 4,000+ views per day. Along with fellow professionals, CharlieJ coordinates photo shoots for aspiring models from Wilmington, Myrtle Beach and Charleston. Sticking to his roots, CharlieJ is primarily a portrait, event and sports photographer. He enjoys capturing senior portraits for students of eastern North Carolina schools. On any given day, you can find CharlieJ capturing a sporting event for the local high schools, attending a model photo shoot or photographing people on the streets of Myrtle Beach, Charleston or Wilmington.
