Charlie Melendez
Welcome, my name is Charlie Melendez and I want to tell you a little about myself. I am a graduate from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School and currently attend Florida International University. I plan on graduating in 2012 with a degree in Finance. The reason I am studying Finance is that I am infatuated with the investment world.
When I was a sophomore in high school i picked up 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' and learned how important investing is. I have been learning everything about investing since that day. I learned pretty quickly and was fortunate enough to do an Internship for the Vice President of Wealth Management (Miami Beach office) of what was Citi-Smith Barney. I soaked up all the knowledge in those couple of months under the wing of my boss. I used this newfound knowledge to manage my own money. All my birthday money, work money, and extraneous income went to my investment account and I got the fever of investing.
In my sophomore year of college i decided to create a company where I could teach young people how to invest. So I created the Flow Workshop. I performed several Flow workshops in Miami and in Cartagena, Colombia. I am proud to say that I have imparted my knowledge of investing on many young people and most of them are currently managing their own money. I am currently the Portfolio Manager and head of the Trading Desk for the Phoenician Investment Fund. The Phoenician Investment Fund is FIU's premier Finance Club at FIU. It won the award for Best Emerging Club. We teach members everything that Wall Street companies will teach them when they get their respective jobs; whether it is Investment Banking, Analyst, or Trading.
My newest project which I am happy to tell you about is regarding LED lighting. I recently got involved with an LED lighting company here in Ft Lauderdale called Silescent Lighting. They are not only the most green and longest lasting lights, they are also the most intelligent lights in the world. I was fortunate enough to attain the rights to sell their lights in Colombia and Venezuela. I am currently working hard to set up a distribution network in my respective countries.
