Charlotte Joachim

Charlotte Joachim was born in the Bronx, New York in 1927. Early on in her life, she developed a love of and interest in both the visual arts and in dance. She attended the prestigious High school of Music and Art while studying dance at The American Ballet School. Charlotte later studied modern dance under scholarship with Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham and at the New Dance Group.

As a recipient of a scholarship to The New School for Social Research, Charlotte studied under the tutelage of Camelio Egas, director of the art department

She was later cast by the Rodgers and Hammerstein Company in their original touring production of Annie Get Your Gun. Charlotte's dancing career also included work in the Second Avenue Jewish Theatre and a national and world tour with the Chandra Kaly Dancers , which included performances in London's Café de Paris and at the Tropicana in Havana.

Her diverse theatrical, cultural and artistic activities and associations have influenced Charlotte's sense of color and movement in her paintings and prints, and have allowed her to develop her own voice as a distinctive and remarkable artist.

In 2006 Charlotte participated in a three artist exhibition at the Westbeth Gallery in New York City. She also had several one man shows at the Rivervale Library. in New Jersey and at The Bergen Museum.

Charlotte has exhibited her works at Lever House, New York City, The Monroe Center in Hoboken, The White Gallery, Franklin Lakes, The Art Center of Northern New Jersey, and other venues in the New York Metropolitan area through her association with Salute to Women in the Arts. Most recently she exhibited in a group show The Wyckoff Family YMCA an exhibit titled "The Self Portrait. and the Melange Exhibit group show at Riverside Gallery in Hackensack

Charlotte has received a number of awards and jury prizes, including First Prize in the oil painting division of the Washington Heights Gallery Group, and Best in Show in the multimedia exhibition at Bergen Community College.
