Charmain Naidoo

Charmain Naidoo has been a journalist for 30 years and is able to prepare university courses (undergraduate levels) as well as teach workshops using both her journalistic experience and academic skills. She has worked across all sections of newspapers (courts, features, hard news, profiles, obituaries, politics, business, health, science, fashion, food, travel). She has written and edited content and has been known for her mentoring of young journalists. In 2008 she did two semesters of a mini-MBA (unfinished) on digital journalism and social media at Preston University in the UK (Ref: Francois Nel - @francoisnel). She has overseen the moderation of social media sites (Facebook mainly) and has set ethical benchmarks as to best practice regarding open opinion on sites. She has drawn up, and overseen, editorial budgets – something she believes is crucial for journalists to understand in these difficult financial times. Because of her experience as a foreign correspondent (2 years each, London and New York) she is able to teach acclimatisation in new situations.
