Chaya Chayo

Brooklyn, New York

I've been working as a freelance hairstylist for over 6 years now. My specialty is Wedding hairdos; bridal hair, updos, special occasion hair styling etc. I got my big break assisting my mother and well known hairstylist Danielle Chayo. In one busy summer, at the height of wedding season, she uncovered the talent I had for hair and encouraged me to further explore my abilities. After interning at a Wig Salon for six months, learning everything there was to know about wigs, I began wash and styling wigs for friends in my community. Now I was styling wigs as well as hair at various wedding halls, alongside my mother. I continued assisting while simultaneously accumulating my own clientele. I don't think there ever will be a more fulfilling job for me, than making a bride look and feel her best on her special day. In September 2010, I enrolled in a Cosmetology program at Aveda Institute New York. I broadened my knowledge and love for hair, delving deeply into many chapters of Hair Theory as well as practically sharpening my hair cutting, hair coloring, and overall hairstyling skills. From when I was a little girl, nothing gave me greater pleasure than to create something magnificent out of hair. Whether it was giving my barbie a hair makeover, piling all of my best friend's corkscrew curls ontop of her head as an updo, or scrunching my hair with mousse to look like Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen complete with butterfly hair clips, and all...to get to play with hair and create hairstyles for all my clients and friends is a Dream Come True.
